PS5 players will soon be able to join Discord voice chat directly from their console https://ift.tt/ctjbLpz

In recent years, we’ve partnered with Discord to introduce more ways for players to connect with their friends and communities across Discord and the PS5 console. Since we first introduced Discord voice chat on PS5, players have joined a Discord voice chat on PS5 more than 290 million times to hang out with friends in Discord voice channels while gaming.

Today, we’re pleased to share that we’re starting to roll out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chat directly from the PS5 console, without relying on the Discord PC or mobile apps to initiate the connection.

PS5 players will soon be able to join Discord voice chat directly from their console

How to join Discord voice chat on PS5

To start, select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join. Then, select your preferred voice channel. This will reveal more details, such as who is already in the channel chatting. You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, allowing you to join right away.

This update will make it easier than ever to quickly hop into Discord conversations with other gamers. It will gradually roll out over the coming weeks, starting with players in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and the Middle East, and finally the Americas.

Please note that you will need to update your console to the latest system software, and your accounts for PlayStation Network and Discord must be linked. If you haven’t yet linked accounts, you can learn how to do so here.

Profile Share also begins rolling out next week

Starting next week, we’re also rolling out the ability for you to share your PlayStation Network profile on any messaging or social app. To begin, select “Share Profile” from PlayStation App or the PS5 console to generate a shareable link or QR code. When the recipient opens the link, they’ll have the option to add you as a friend once they’re signed in to PlayStation Network:

We’re passionate about making it as easy as possible for you to find and connect with new friends and communities, whether you enjoy playing with other friends on PS5 or hopping into crossplay games. Thank you for your ongoing support.

The PlayStation Blog crew flew down to Los Angeles, CA to attend Summer Game Fest Play Days and go hands-on (and off) with a variety of upcoming PS5 games. From titles both big and small, launching soon or further in the future, here are 11 exciting games we checked out at Summer Game Fest.

Kunitsu-Gami | Coming July 18

Part action game, part resource-management strategy, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess was one of the most unique games I played over the SGF weekend. Your goal in each standalone level is to purify a path for the titular goddess. As you cleanse infected areas and free villagers from their poisoned prisons, you gain points to spend during the daytime cycle. These points are used to assign villagers offensive and defensive roles, as well to carve the purified path for the goddess to traverse before night comes.

Once the sun sets, demons burst from the edge of the level and make their way toward the goddess. You’re free to battle enemies directly, or place your villager units where you like to create a powerful defense against the onslaught of foes. Survive the night, and you can resume charting that path to the end of the level, eventually purifying the gate and moving to the next area.

It’s a compelling, simple premise – escort this goddess to the end of the level – but between the striking visual style and the nail-biting gameplay, there seems to be plenty of room for depth here. Definitely looking forward to playing more and seeing how these battles develop.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows | Coming November 15

I’ve taken a leap of faith on the Assassin’s Creed series for nearly 15 years, enjoying how the series evolves and innovates much like the civilizations and cultures it spotlights with each iteration. The Feudal Japan-focused Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues that promise, with a hands-off gameplay presentation showing the dynamic ways the dual protagonists fight for hope during a time of political turmoil. Traditionally stealthy shinobi Naoe strikes from the shadows, swinging from a grappling hook, destroying light sources, and even sneaking through shallow water using a bamboo reed to breathe in order to surprise her quarry.

A more brutal approach can be taken by the historical samurai Yasuke, who catches the eye and awe of both villagers and enemies with his comparatively massive stature and aggressively bombastic fighting style. He moves through combat with heavy brute force, juxtaposing against his calm and honorable nature. Their complimentary play styles offer choice withinin the midst of a changing world, and left me excited to see their alliance play out.

Neva | Coming 2024

A closer look at 11 PS5 titles from Summer Game Fest 2024

Occasionally, people will question whether video games are art, and even though the answer is a resounding yes, there will still be games that so beautifully embody that concept that they leave you in awe. Neva, like its predecessor Gris, is that type of game. With beautiful artwork and fluid animation, it feels like you’re truly gliding through the environment with your animal companion.

Combat elevates this title, combined with a musical score that completely captures the mood from moment to moment. In my short time with the game, I was able to experience a wide range of emotions, such as joy, panic, and somber reflection. If art is supposed to make you feel, then Neva is bound to bring players on a ride.

Phantom Blade Zero | In development for PS5

When I first saw the dizzyingly impressive Phantom Blade Zero trailer in the 2023 Showcase, I thought, “how can the actual game look and move like that?” The animations and combat flourishes were so stylish and cool that surely there was some kind of catch.

But after playing a few levels and fighting a few bosses, I can say it does in fact look and move that beautifully. The team was inspired by Wuxia and Kung Fu, leading to flowing, dramatic poses and a powerful sense of a struggle between two evenly-matched opponents. Even smaller enemy encounters feel elegant as Soul leaps around the battlefield to close the distance between opponents.

Blocking and parrying allow players of all skill levels to leap in and start fighting. While you can simply hold down L1 to block all incoming attacks (each with a sharply animated deflection, not just a static “blocking” stance), you can also parry or dodge these attacks for devastating counterattacks.

Phantom Blade Zero walks an interesting line between character-action titles and Soulslikes, so as a fan of both, I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Unknown 9: Awakening | Coming Fall 2024

A closer look at 11 PS5 titles from Summer Game Fest 2024

Sharing the same world as the popular book trilogy, podcast, and comic series, Unknown 9: Awakening expands the universe through the story of the game’s protagonist Haroona. In a hands-off demo, I experienced the core gameplay loop of active stealth, combat, and an ability to possess nearby enemies, known as Steeping. Almost every engagement could be approached from one or a mix of these options, meaning you can go from being stuck and an all-out brawl to stepping between enemies and sabotaging equipment to turning invisible and slipping out in mass confusion and everything in between. With a minimal UI and engaging action, it’s a title worth keeping track of for those looking for a fun adventure game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Coming Fall 2024

BioWare have lifted the veil on the first hour of gameplay in the long-anticipated return to Thedas. From the character creation system (test out skin tone against different lighting!) to combat style (pause and play strategy or real-time fluid attacks), players are encouraged to be and fight however they choose. A new resource meter specific to each class (warrior, rogue, mage) builds up momentum in battle to unlock greater attacks. The Frostbite engine renders the magic-infused city of Minrathous in startling detail and scale. Magic weaves through the city like electricity, while ancient Elven statues tower over the shadowy landscape.

Companions have always been a core part of the BioWare RPG experience, but Veilguard aims to push this to a new level, with lengthy narrative arcs, and unique combat combos that bring a chosen team together like never before. This early chapter of the game in many ways played out like the lead-up to a final boss and gave us a peek at tragic hero-turned-villain Solas and the possible evil yet to be unleashed in his attempt to rip down the Veil. If the first hour of this story is any indication, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be an adventure well worth the wait.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree | Coming June 21

I had just 30 minutes with this immense DLC, so definitely check out this earlier hands-on report for fully-formed thoughts on this anticipated update to 2022’s base game. I can say that, even as someone who Platinum’d Elden Ring, the new weapons, enemies, and vistas of this DLC stopped me in my tracks.

Each enemy was a fresh learning experience, and each mini-boss and eventual main boss I fought was a whole new challenge that felt like playing the game for the first time. What’s that weird tree over there… can I make it over to that mountain… is that big wicker inferno walking toward me? Constant emergent stuff happening, always pulling you deeper into the map. This one’s at the top of my June list for sure.

Sonic X Shadow Generations | Coming Oct 25

The Year of Shadow is looking good with what I saw from the remastered Generations title, which includes a new remixed version of Space Colony Ark and a thrilling take on the Biolizard boss battle. Shadow is known as the ultimate lifeform, and his new Doom abilities make you feel like it while playing. Shadow’signature Chaos Control ability lets players freeze time and speed past or destroy enemies Shadow’s time-manipulation abilities can also be used to navigate tricky platforming sections. Even while fighting the Biolizard, I was able to throw spears of light to deflect attacks and perform powerful melee combos. Along with great visuals and music, it’s truly the black hedgehog’s time to shine.

Path of Exile 2 | Coming

Path of Exile 2’s demo immediately throws players into the mud and muck of its free-to-play cursed world, giving you the tools and choice of skills to channel your violence against its darkest creatures. I selected the Ranger class for my playthrough, wielding long-range arrows boosted by ice and lightning Skill Gem attacks to keep the vile imps and bugs at bay. I got a taste for the larger challenges to come after encountering a burrowing, acid-spewing horror called the Devourer that put my strategy to the test.

Street Fighter 6 Year 2 | Begins June 26

A closer look at 11 PS5 titles from Summer Game Fest 2024

The Season 2 roster kicks off later this month with longtime villain M. Bison, followed later by SFIII and IV alum Elena, plus SNK crossover fighters Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui.

Players familiar with Bison’s classic moves will instantly feel at home, as his Scissor Kick, Psycho Crusher, and Head Stomp all return. But new for SF6 is a grab attack that plants an explosive energy ball within his opponent that eventually detonates. If you land certain special moves while that bomb is implanted, you get a special finisher that adds some hits and damage to your attack. SFV players will also notice Bison’s walk speed is much faster this time around.

SFV players may also wonder, “Hey, didn’t Bison die?” Yes! But now he’s back, amnesiac, and atop a stunning steed, so we’ll just have to see how this all plays out over Season 2.

The Plucky Squire | Coming 2024

My short time with The Plucky Squire reminds me of why I got into gaming to begin with. It’s a charming platformer that oozes personality and creativity. Switching between a 2D and 3D world is an impressive mechanic in trailers, and it works well on the controller. The world of the desk was as expansive as any good 3D platformer, with many 2D surfaces to hop in and interact with. Another surprise was how the game pays homage to many other genres, like side-scrolling shooters. The Plucky Squire reminds me of a time when almost every game I played was filled with charming new experiences, and I can’t wait to dive back in later this year.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update includes suit collab and fan favorites, available June 18

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update includes suit collab and fan favorites, available June 18

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update includes suit collab and fan favorites, available June 18 https://ift.tt/mf8EjMg

A brand-new, free update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2* is upon us and it’s bringing eight new suits to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – including some new designs and returning favorites from previous games. This update, dropping on June 18, also addresses some community feedback and adds stability improvements to the game.

First, we’re delighted to fully unveil four new suits created in partnership with Colm Dillane, AKA KidSuper, and some special guest collaborators. Evenly split between the Spider heroes, these are new takes on Spidey suits designed from the ground up by KidSuper, Vini Jr, Lando Norris, and Rina Sawayama. Check them out – along with some notes from each designer!

Metro Suit (Miles Morales) – Designed by KidSuper

Fashion designer, Colm Dillane, AKA KidSuper, created the Metro suit for Miles Morales, which comes with additional variant suit styles: red on black, classic Spidey, and teal on purple. KidSuper not only partnered with us to make these suits, but he also worked closely with our special guests to design their suits!

“The puffer design you often see in my KidSuper collections and the exclusive ‘original’ colorway! We came up with designs that felt super original, like something only we could pull off.”

– KidSuper

Ginga Suit (Miles Morales) – Co-designed by Vini Jr. and KidSuper.

Professional Football player Vini Jr. wears his inspiration on his sleeve. A love letter to Brazil and the beautiful, global game of Football, the Ginga suit features a design and default colorway reminiscent of both: a sporty look for Miles Morales with a black, green, yellow, and blue shader. Of course, this suit also features added styles: red on black, classic, and gold on white.

“I wanted it to be a celebration of Brazil’s culture and people. I just love the overall design because it has the energy and action that I associate Spider-Man with, but it’s beautifully mixed with some Brazilian flair. Which makes this suit super special and different from others.”

– Vini Jr.

Fluro Suit (Peter Parker) – Co-designed by Lando Norris and KidSuper

Motorsports phenom Lando Norris is all about moving fast. Paired with the high-speed action of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Norris’ suit reflects the pace – wholly inspired by racing, complete with a helmet and overalls familiar to those who burn rubber across global circuits. The Fluro Suit features its own suit styles with some variants such as a classic color scheme, white on black, and pink on blue.

“The main inspiration for the design was the feeling of speed. I also wanted to incorporate racing elements and materials like carbon, along with my trademark Fluro colour, which you can see throughout the suit. The carbon style effect on the suit is my favourite.”

– Lando Norris.

Motorchic Suit (Peter Parker) – Co-designed by Rina Sawayama and KidSuper

Singer/Actress/Model Rina Sawayama delivers a badass motorbike look to Spidey’s locker. Decked out in all leather, the Motorchic suit gives Peter Parker a revved-up design unique from any other in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The suit features other variants as well: a classic color scheme, black, and gold.

“I really wanted to explore my love of fashion whilst making this suit and what we ended up with I think encapsulates that, it’s fun, practical, edgy and chic. I personally love the metal detailing across the suit, it still feels like what I envision as classic Spider-Man but adds a more rugged feel. It looks pretty heavy duty and like it would stand up very well in combat!”

– Rina Sawayama

We’re also thrilled to announce four fan-favorite legacy suits from Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are being added to the game! Based on community requests, these four suits are being retrofitted for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including two for Peter and two for Miles. See what’s in store below!

Last Stand Suit (Peter Parker)

Donning a red leather jacket, the Last Stand suit is a highly requested fan favorite coming to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2! Now updated with our suit styles, the Last Stand suit gets a more classic variant, full black, and an Arachno-Man-inspired yellow and green.

Into The Spider-Verse (Peter Parker)

Inspired by Peter B. Parker’s design in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this iconic look adds a Spider-verse flare to Peter Parker’s wardrobe. Enable the Film Style Animation mode via visual settings to get an even more authentic, filmic look!

Animated Suit (Miles Morales)

Miles gets a little animated. We’re adding Miles Morales’ Animated suit to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This suit is reminiscent of classic cartoons and comics of old.

Uptown Pride Suit (Miles Morales)

Complete with a gold trim, the Uptown Pride suit is a beloved favorite from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales that’s making its way to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2! This time, the Uptown Pride Suit gets added colorways: silver trim, black on red, and blue on pink.

Finally, our latest update brings stability fixes to the game and addresses some player feedback, such as the ability to swap out your parry and traversal abilities from the Symbiote to Spider Arms, and vice versa. This update, version 1.003.000*, will be available on June 18th, so keep an eye out for it!

If you haven’t had a chance to jump in yet, now is a good time as any: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently featured in PlayStation’s Days of Play celebration! That means big discounts for physical and digital editions across PlayStation Store and at participating retailers! Be sure to get the game before the promotion ends on June 12, 2024!

We look forward to hearing what you think when the update hits next week!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hits PS5 on October 25

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hits PS5 on October 25

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hits PS5 on October 25 https://ift.tt/BrLPTfb

Attention, PlayStation players and Call of Duty fans — Black Ops is officially back! After four years, Treyarch and Raven are ushering in the next chapter in the vaunted Black Ops franchise with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, releasing on Friday, October 25. We’ve got intel on some of the modes and features coming to the game and more on items such as pre-order benefits you can earn between now and launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hits PS5 on October 25

This will be signature Black Ops across a cinematic single-player Campaign, Multiplayer, and the epic return of Round-Based Zombies. Get ready for a mind-bending narrative and to go beyond the rules of engagement in all three modes. In Black Ops 6, you’re never sure who to trust and what’s real – – but this blog is real, so let’s dive in!

The Black Ops 6 Campaign narrative

It’s the early ‘90s – a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. While the Gulf War commands the global spotlight, a shadowy clandestine force has infiltrated the highest levels of the CIA, branding anyone who resists as traitors. Exiled from their agency and country that once hailed them as heroes, Black Ops veteran Frank Woods and his team find themselves hunted by the military machine that created them. They are forced to go rogue, partnering with the criminal underworld to stay one step ahead of their own corrupted government. They’ll do whatever it takes to bring down the real traitors and clear their names — even if that means crossing the same lines as their enemies. There is no going back.

With the Campaign taking place in the years after the Cold War, longtime fans will recognize that this timeframe is directly connected to the 1980s flashbacks revealed during Black Ops 2 – the aftermath of which has left our heroes in dire circumstances.

In this new chapter, we see a different side of Frank Woods following his traumatic injury at the hands of Raul Menendez. His protege is Troy Marshall, who has been making a name for himself in the field. Marshall is a reluctant leader, driven by a strong moral compass.

Marshall and Woods are working with another new face in Black Ops 6: CIA handler Jane Harrow. She is a born leader, fearless and brilliant, and helps manage their relationships within the agency.

When an operation goes wrong, Woods and Marshall are suspended and ultimately forced to go rogue, and they soon realize they must trust each other to really get to the bottom of what’s going on. They must build their own team of rogue agents, recruiting two intriguing new characters in Felix Neumann, a technical genius, and Sevati Dumas, a mysterious assassin.

With a mixture of new and old faces, a legendary wildcard also returns to the fight – Russell Adler.  While his allegiances and motivations remain unclear, this former ally may have become a new and daunting enemy.

Dynamic moment-to-moment Campaign gameplay variety

Leading the development of the Black Ops 6 Campaign is Raven Software, and with this Campaign, their goal is to deliver more: an increased variety of mission structures, additional focus on player choice, and more options to finish each mission, with dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay throughout.

Mission variety is a key component of what PlayStation players can expect. From a map standpoint, some locations are more ideal for stealth, and some are more appropriate for large-scale battles, and the Campaign has a balance of both. These range from storming a palace to pulling off a heist in an opulent, southern European casino. Within the Campaign missions gameplay can unfold in multiple ways, giving the player the freedom to navigate through them as they see fit. This includes combat as well as conversation, as operatives talk, barter, and manipulate their way into different outcomes.

There are many more Campaign details that fans can find across Call of Duty channels, including details on enemies, equipment, the return of the Safehouse, and more.

A taste of what’s to come with Multiplayer and the return of RBZ

Treyarch is leaving no stone unturned in the development of both Multiplayer and Zombies. Many more details are coming later in the year on each of these modes but there are a few key things we can share now.

In Black Ops 6 Multiplayer, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6. Many of these maps feature innovations on the classic three-lane map design, with quick time to engagement, and coming in the small to medium-sized range for the right amount of complexity. This allows for meaningful player choice, keeping the action flowing and the pacing optimal. A key point for Treyarch is that maps intentionally support gameplay variety.

But that’s not all. It’s time to rejoice, Zombies fans! Round-based Zombies is back in a massive way. Players will be able to take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch in the return of this fan-favorite mode. Players will experience the continuation of the Dark Aether storyline that started in Black Ops Cold War, with each map containing a curated mix of elements both new and familiar to discover.

And of course, in Black Ops 6’s post-launch seasons, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.

Introducing Omnimovement

Across the entire game, players will push beyond their limits with several new global innovations, including Omnimovement, the most fluid boots-on-the-ground Call of Duty movement to date. Movement has been a consistent area of focus and innovation across Call of Duty – and with Black Ops 6, Treyarch is redefining movement in a big way.

For the first time ever, players can sprint in any direction (forward, sidestepping, and backpedaling) and move like a true Black Ops action hero. This innovation immediately allows the player to move like never before and seamlessly chain combat maneuvers together, like sliding, diving, and a newly-enhanced supine prone, all with a full 360 degrees range of motion.

With Omnimovement – and core player movement in general – it’s not just about making the player move faster. This is Treyarch’s holistic approach to redefine what Black Ops movement really means. The upcoming Multiplayer Beta will be a perfect opportunity for PlayStation players to try it out for themselves.

There are many other exciting innovations and features coming to Black Ops 6, including the return of a more traditional Call of Duty Prestige system, but for now, let’s turn our attention to how you can get involved in the action.
